About Zach | Chasing Utah

The person behind Chasing Utah

Inventor was always the dream.

The work has taken me through a few different worlds. That hasn't changed what I wanted to become.

I learned from field work, solar, roofing, construction, real estate, sales, design and countless conversations. Each new discipline taught me to notice a different piece of the same puzzle.

Today I'm still developing ideas, trying small experiments, looking for people with missing expertise and figuring out which real problems are worth solving. I'm interested in more than any one industry.

Three strengths I keep coming back to

INVENT

Connecting disciplines.

Seeing patterns between technology, human needs and the physical world. Turning unusual questions into experiments worth testing.

CONNECT

Meeting people where they are.

Years in sales, recruiting, field work, homes and real estate taught me to listen, follow through and connect complementary expertise.

EXPRESS

Making things understandable.

Creative work, theater, marketing, visual storytelling and bilingual conversation help turn difficult ideas into something people can connect with.

How I think about the work

LOOK

See what's there.

Start with people, physical reality, constraints and what can actually be observed.

CONNECT

Find what's missing.

A question, a collaborator, a different field, a practical route into the problem.

MAKE

Try something real.

An experiment, a qualified introduction, a better decision or a useful first version.

Independent. Interdisciplinary. Curious.

I'm not presenting myself as a team of engineers, a hiring agency or the official representative of every organization I've met. I may help connect relevant people, but introductions require mutual agreement.

Where referral or consulting compensation applies, it is agreed and disclosed as required. I keep unreleased invention details private.

One place to start

Tell me what you want to make possible.

Keep the first note simple and non-confidential. We'll see whether the next step is a conversation, a test or somebody better suited to the work.
